The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, is launching a scheme for residential education for Scheduled Caste (SC) students in high schools (SHRESHTA) in the target areas. SHRESHTA is fully funded by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, which is being started from the session 2022-23.

It aims to provide residential educational opportunities for meritorious scheduled caste students (both boys and girls). The attached brochure has all the details about the SHRESHTA scheme. Key points include:

It offers admission to classes 9th and 11th in select CBSE affiliated private residential schools for competitive education till class 12th. The selection is through a national level test NETS (National Entrance Test for SHRESHTA), which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in Computer Based Test Mode.

The schools entered into this scheme include the distribution of scholarships directly. The scholarship covers the school fee (including tuition fee) and hostel fee (including mess fee) subject to the ceilings mentioned in the brochure.

The expected number of seats from 2022-23 to 2025-26, obligations on the part of schools for admission, and provision of bridge courses have all been included in the brochure.

The scheme is applicable only for residential schools (independent) affiliated to CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) up to class 12th. Schools must be in operation for 5 years or more with 75 percent pass percentage or more in Class 10 and Class 12 in last 3 years.
